NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll – Oct. 5, 2023

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Buford stayed undefeated and the top 10 teams were unchanged in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The top-ranked and reigning Georgia 7A champion (23-0) Wolves won three more contests to extend their win streak to 30 games with a 15-0 rout of Central Gwinnett on Wednesday. Buford’s last defeat was a 1-0 playoff loss to Lambert in the Georgia Class 7A Super Regionals. The Wolves have been the top team in the poll for the past seven rankings, and 10 weeks overall dating back to last year.

The only team in the top 10 to suffer a loss was No. 2 Gretna (26-2) — a 4-2 defeat at the hands of then-No. 19 Millard North (22-4), which moved up to 16th this week with the victory. Third-ranked Caddo (36-2) completed a 5-0 week, while No. 5 Eaton (13 games) and sixth-ranked Blue Springs South (16 games) are in the midst of long win streaks. Among Blue Springs’ triumphs was a second victory over No. 12 Raymore-Peculiar in the last two weeks, 3-1 on Monday.

Elsewhere, No. 22 Papillion-LaVista (23-7) returned to the poll after a week absence, and Broken Arrow dropped out after two losses over the past seven days.

State rankings submitted by the 2023 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality, strength of schedule, and active NFCA membership. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
