The Seattle Seahawks may have been sitting idle during Week 5, but the rest of the NFC West was in action. Overall, it was a bit of a mixed bag in terms of positive results for the Seahawks. Two division rivals did lose, which helps Seattle in the standings, but one did not… and they’re continuing to loom larger and larger each week.
As the season moves forward, the landscape of the league this year is forming into a clearer picture, learning new things each week – especially about the NFC West. Below is how the rest of the division handled business on Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers obliterate the Cowboys 42-10
I sincerely regret to inform everyone the San Francisco 49ers look good.
Really, really good.
San Francisco entered this season as one of the top tier Super Bowl contenders. Through five weeks, they look like easily the best team in football, which was capped off with a complete dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys to the tune of 42-10. The only question lingering for the 49ers is if they can stay healthy, specifically at the quarterback position or the oft-injured Christian McCaffrey… and it’s the only question because right now, this team doesn’t seem to have any holes.
Los Angeles Rams lose to Philadelphia, 23-14
Don’t let the final score fool you, the Philadelphia Eagles were in complete control the entire time. The Eagles outgained the Rams in total yardage 454 to 249, won the time of possession battle 37:55 to 22:05, and were better on third down going 13-of-18 compared to LA’s 6-of-14.
The Rams did manage to take a 14-10 lead late in the second quarter, but were unable to get anything going during a second half shutout. Even the return of Cooper Kupp – who caught eight passes for 118 yards – wasn’t enough to get LA’s offense going.
Arizona Cardinals can't keep up with the Bengals, fall 34-20 late
Credit where credit is due, the Arizona Cardinals were picked by many to be the worst team in football. Through five weeks, this couldn’t be further from the truth. No, they’re not a playoff team, but the Cardinals are no cakewalk either. They’re going to be a tough out, and the Bengals learned it first hand.
Arizona took a 14-10 lead in the second quarter, and even closed Cincinnati’s lead to 24-20 going into the fourth. Unfortunately for them, the Bengals finally remembered their offensive potential and woke up. It was too much for the Cardinals to handle, who were ultimately outscored 10-0 in the final frame.
