NFC West standings: Rams, Seahawks battle for 2nd place, wild card

The NFC West had a good week in Week 15. The division went 3-1 with the Arizona Cardinals being the only losers. But they played the San Francisco 49ers, so someone had to lose.

The Niners clinched the division title with the win, while the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams both kept pace with one another.

The Rams are the No. 7 seed in the NFC right now and the Seahawks are just behind them.

Here are the current NFC West standings:

  1. San Francisco 49ers, 11-3 (5-0 division) – clinched division
  2. Los Angeles Rams, 7-7 (4-1 division)
  3. Seattle Seahawks, 7-7 (1-4 division)
  4. Arizona Cardinals, 3-11 (0-5 division)

Let’s look back at what happened in Week 15 and what is coming up in Week 16.

San Francisco 49ers

The offense was humming against the Cardinals with a 45-29 win. Brock Purdy strengthened his MVP case with four touchdown passes. Christian McCaffrey scored three times and had 187 total yards from scrimmage.

They clinched the division title and, with the Cowboys and Eagles both losing, have a full game lead as the top seed in the NFC.

Los Angeles Rams

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Rams built a 20-0 lead and beat the Commanders 28-20. They are the No. 7 seed in the NFC and would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.

Sitting at 7-7, they hold a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Seahawks.

Matthew Stafford had two touchdown passes, Cooper Kupp had eight catches for 111 yards and a score an Kyren Williams rushed for 152 yards and a score in the win.

Seattle Seahawks

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Drew Lock threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 28 seconds left in the game Monday night to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17. Safety Julian Love picked of Jalen hurts twice.

The Seahawks are eighth in the NFC, just outside the playoffs because they lost twice to the 7-7 Rams this season.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals could not stop San Francisco’s offense but did show up offensively in their 45-29 home loss. They rushed for 234 yards as a team, led by James Conners’ 83 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Trey McBride had 10 catches for 102 yards and the Cardinals set season-highs in points and yards gained.

Coming up in Week 16

America gets to see a lot of the NFC West.

  • The 49ers will host the Baltimore Ravens Monday night.
  • The Rams play the 7-7 Saints at home on Thursday night
  • The Seahawks are on the road against the Titans.
  • The Cardinals are on the road against the 5-9 Bears.
