NFC West standings: 49ers retake division lead on bye as everyone else loses badly

The Seattle Seahawks’ time atop the NFC West was short-lived. They took the lead last week after the San Francisco 49ers lost their third straight game.

However, the 49ers were idle in Week 9 and the rest of the division was awful. The Seahawks, Cardinals and Rams combined to score as many touchdowns as the 49ers did while on their bye.

San Francisco 49ers

The Niners were on their bye but still managed to “win.” They acquired pass rusher Chase Young from the Washington Commanders. Their front four now includes Young, Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead. That shouldn’t be allowed.

The Seahawks managed only 151 total yards of offense and allowed the Baltimore Ravens to roll up 515 yards, including 298 on the ground in a 37-3 loss.

Los Angeles Rams

With Matthew Stafford hurt, Brett Rypien got the start at quarterback and the Rams were awful on offense. They gained only 187 total yards and turned the ball over twice in a 20-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Arizona Cardinals

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

After Josh Dobbs was traded to the Minnesota Vikings, rookie Clayton Tune got his first NFL start. It did not go well. The Cardinals were shut out 27-0 by the Cleveland Browns and managed to gain only 58 yards of offense.

Kyler Murray returns to play for the first time this season in Week 10.

Coming up in Week 10

  • The Niners come off the bye to play the 6-2 Jacksonville Jaguars on the road.
  • The Seahawks will host the 4-5 Washington Commanders.
  • The Rams are off with their bye.
  • The Cardinals return home and will face the 4-5 Falcons in the return of Kyler Murray to the lineup for the first time since he tore his ACL last December.
