NFC West draft picks: Seahawks take CB Devon Witherspoon

The Seattle Seahawks fell backwards into a top-five pick in this year’s draft. They acquired the Broncos’ 2023 first-round pick in the deal that sent Russell Wilson to Denver. Wilson was a disaster last year for the Broncos and landed Seattle the No. 5 overall selection.

With that top-five choice, the Seahawks snagged Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon. He’ll pair up with second-year CB Tariq Woolen as Seattle tries to rekindle the magic of the Legion of Boom.

Here’s a quick overview of Witherspoon via the Athletic’s Dane Brugler:

Witherspoon needs to walk the fine line of being aggressive without drawing flags, but his fiery play personality is a positive, along with his cover athleticism, ball skills and finishing toughness. He projects as an immediate NFL starter with scheme versatility.

While Witherspoon provides a nice injection of talent in Seattle’s secondary, they’ll still need to figure out their defensive line which struggled to generate pressure on quarterbacks last season.
