The NFC North through three weeks looks to be its own version of Charles Dickens story A Tale of Two Cities. Two cities, Detroit and Green Bay, are leading the division while Chicago and Minnesota are dwelling in the basement.
Both the Lions and Packers came out on top this week with one securing victory much quicker in front of their home fans. As for the Bears and Vikings, one team had a significantly worse week while the other again showed they can score but not enough to secure a win through three weeks.
Chicago Bears
The Bears entered their week three matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on the road with the entire team coming off a horrible week. It started with defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigning and then having Justin Fields causing waves in the media. To top it all off it was reported that the Bears had lawnmowers stolen from Soldier Field.
After all of that the Bears gave up 34 first-half points on their way to a 41 to 10 loss where they looked like the worst team in the NFL. Coach Matt Eberfleus and Justin Fields could not look more lost if they tried and neither look to be getting on the right side of things anytime soon.
Green Bay Packers
After being held scoreless in the first half of a home opener for the first time since 2017, the Green Bay Packers came back in the second half and pulled out a tough win. The New Orleans Saints looked like a well-oiled machine in the first half before a Derek Carr injury derailed their momentum.
The Packers needed a miracle late in the fourth quarter and Jordan Love pulled one out of his bag with a rushing touchdown and clutch passing touchdown to Romeo Doubs. While NFC North fans thought that Aaron Rodgers leaving the division would open things up, Jordan Love has people thinking otherwise through three weeks.
Minnesota Vikings
After losing three games in all of 2022, the Minnesota Vikings have started the year 0-3. Vikings fans are losing their minds fighting over Kirk Cousins and Kevin O’Connell and all the while Cousins and the entire team is putting up impressive numbers.
Cousins is leading the NFL in passing yards, Justin Jefferson is leading it in receiving yards, and Danielle Hunter is leading in sacks. When a team has three players leading three major categories you should have at least one win and that simply isn’t the case for the Vikings.
A late-game interception cost Cousins and the Vikings a chance at victory but in week four they may finally get into the win column in a matchup against the winless Panthers.
Detroit Lions
The best-looking team in the NFC North through three weeks of the season is the Detroit Lions without a doubt. When you see what the Chiefs are doing while seeing what the Lions did to an undefeated Falcons team on Sunday, this team could very well be undefeated.
Jared Goff and the offense looked the part despite the missing of David Montgomery and that is in large part to what Sam LaPorta is doing. He is one of the most impressive, instant-impact rookies we have seen this season and is making a major impact on the Lions’ offense.
The defensive imposed its will and contained Bijan Robinson and headed into a week four matchup against the Packers on Thursday night football on a short week.
