Neymar has ruled out a summer transfer to Real Madrid and reaffirmed his commitment to Paris Saint-Germain, who he joined from Barcelona last summer in a world record £200m deal.
There has been growing speculation in Spain that Neymar is agitating for a return to La Liga but the 26-year-old, who is currently on holiday after representing Brazil at the 2018 World Cup, has denied that is the case.
“I'll stay,” he told Fox Sports. “I have a contract with PSG and I've chosen to be there for the challenge, for new things and higher goals.
“I won't change my head about it. I hope we can have a successful season, with new silverware, too. The press enjoys creating rumours, but everyone knows how much I care about PSG.”
Earlier this month, Television Espanola (TVE), a state-owned public service broadcaster in Spain, claimed that a deal worth £274.4m had been agreed between Real and PSG for Neymar’s transfer.
However the Champions League winners moved quickly to deny the speculation, releasing an official statement to deny the existence of any such deal.
A statement on www.realmadrid.com read: “In the face of the constant reports linking PSG’s Neymar Jr. to our club, Real Madrid C. F. wish to clarify that the club has no intention of making any offer for the player.
“The two clubs enjoy an excellent relationship and, as such, if Real Madrid were at any stage to consider securing the services of a PSG player, they would approach the club in the first instance.”
Neymar became the most expensive player in the world when he left Barcelona for the Ligue 1 side last summer.
He scored 28 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions in an injury-plagued debut season in France, as PSG won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue in a domestic treble.
