Neymar to Chelsea transfer could grant Kylian Mbappe wish after Lionel Messi exit

Chelsea's potential transfer pursuit of Neymar could create a big ripple effect for the future of some of football's most-valued superstars.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Paris-Saint Germain superstar over the course of the past few years, with Todd Boehly's takeover only accelerating the rumours linking the 31-year-old with a sensational move to Stamford Bridge.

Reports in France have claimed that Boehly was in Paris on Tuesday to conduct a meeting with PSG counterpart Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the future of Neymar was said to be on the agenda. The news comes after various reports suggested that Neymar was keen on a move from the French agents, alongside Lionel Messi.

Messi's contract at the Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and is yet to commit his future to the club. The World Cup winner has been linked with a move to MLS outfit Inter Miami in recent weeks, despite some claims that he was set to extend his stay.

The pair's future has been the subject of constant speculation throughout their time in the French capital. In August, Neymar was involved in a row with Kylian Mbappe over a penalty and tensions haven't seemed to ease since. Mbappe seemed to be handed all the reins in Paris in the summer when he signed a three-year contract, but rumours have continued and there were even claims he wanted a January exit.

Mbappe's wish of being PSG's main man has long been a tricky thing the club to navigate and Messi's 2021 arrival has only caused more issues. However, with Messi closing in on a move to Miami at the end of the season and Neymar on Chelsea's radar, Mbappe could get his way.

Reports have claimed that Messi is 'edging towards' leaving PSG, with former club Barcelona also monitoring the ongoing situation. A move to Miami would see him link up with former Premier League winner David Beckham and end Messi's reign as one of Europe's best.

It remains to be seen whether Boehly and Chelsea will decide to sign Neymar. The forward's wages are almost certain to provide a major stumbling block in any talks, but any finances are not expected to be an issue for Boehly.
