Neymar ruled out for rest of the season as PSG confirm surgery required on ankle injury

Neymar’s season is over after Paris Saint-Germain confirmed he will undergo an operation in a bid to finally end his constant ankle injuries.

The Brazilian forward, 31, has suffered from a number of issues in his ankle and was most recently taken off on a stretcher during PSG’s Ligue 1 clash with Lille on February 19.

It meant he missed the first leg of Les Parisiens’ Champions League match with Bayern Munich but, on Monday, the club issued a statement announcing he will sit out the next three to four months of action.

An operation on his ankle will take place in Qatar this week after it was decided that surgery was the best route to prevent a recurrence of the ligament injury.

Neymar has long been plagued by ankle issues with his World Cup stunted by a complaint in the same foot that was injured last month.

Previously, he missed the final months of both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons due to injury, the latter of which involved ankle ligament damage as well as a broken metatarsal bone in his foot.

PSG travel to Bayern on Wednesday looking to overturn a one-goal deficit against the German giants in their Champions League last-16 tie.
