Neymar could earn Cristiano Ronaldo's huge Saudi Arabia wages as transfer talks held

Neymar could be set to follow Cristiano Ronaldo in completing a mega-money move to the Saudi Pro League.

The Brazil international has been tipped to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, following Lionel Messi out of the Parc des Princes. Neymar has come in for significant criticism from the French club's supporters, as has former team-mate Messi.

Ironically, Messi's move to Inter Miami could end up opening a new door for the main who played with him in Barcelona and Paris. Al-Hilal had pushed for a move for the World Cup winner, but their attentions could now turn to Neymar with a potential multi-million pound deal in the works.

According to CBS Sports, a delegation from Al-Hilal flew to Paris on Friday for initial talks. The report suggests Neymar would be in line for wages comparable to those earned by Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr midway through the 2022-23 season.

Reported wages of €200m per year would come on top of a transfer fee in the region of €45m, it has been claimed. Neymar cost PSG more than £200m when he joined from Barcelona in 2017, and is under contract with the French champions until 2025.

Neymar's most recent PSG season saw him miss a number of games through injury. In February, having returned from World Cup duty with Brazil, he suffered a season-ending ankle issue which required surgery.

It is just the latest example of a Saudi club pushing for a big-money summer move for one of the bigger names in European football. Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema will spend next season with newly crowned champions Al-Ittihad, where he is set to be joined by fellow France international N'Golo Kante.

Real Madrid issued a statement thanking Benzema following his decision to leave after a return of more than 350 goals since moving to the Spanish capital. The striker joined Los Blancos in 2009 and won several Champions League trophies with the Spanish club, including playing a starring role in 2022 with multiple hat-tricks during their run to glory.

"Karim Benzema's career at Real Madrid has been a shining example of conduct and professionalism, and he has represented the values of our club," the statement read. "Karim Benzema has earned the right to decide his future.

"Madridistas and all the fans all over the world alike have enjoyed his magical and unique football, which has made him one of the great icons of our club and one of the great legends of world football. Real Madrid is and always will be his home, and we wish him and all his family all the best in this new stage of his life."
