Next Tottenham manager: Xabi Alonso issues fresh update on his Bayer Leverkusen future

Xabi Alonso has confirmed that he will be remaining as Bayer Leverkusen head coach next season amid links with the Tottenham vacancy. On the lookout for another head coach following Antonio Conte's exit at the end of March, the Spaniard has been one of a number of names mentioned in regards to the position in N17.

Retiring from football in 2017 and moving into a coaching role with Real Sociedad B two years later, the 41-year-old departed San Sebastian last summer and duly took up the head coach role at Bayer Leverkusen in October. Guiding the German club up the Bundesliga table after a nightmare start to the campaign, Alonso has his team in European contention via the league and he is also targeting a place in the Europa League final.

Ahead of their semi-final second leg clash against Roma with his team trailing 1-0 on aggregate, Alonso previewed the game against the Giallorossi and issued a further update on his future amid all the speculation regarding the Tottenham job.

"I'm happy here with the team and the club. I'm not worried about my future," he said. When pressed by German publication Bild if he will still be coach at least until 2024, he stated: "That's correct."

With the club not making a move for Julian Nagelsmann and with Alonso ruling himself out of the running, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is the current favourite with the bookmakers to replace Conte at the helm. Brendan Rodgers, Thomas Frank, Ryan Mason, Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim are also high on the bookies' list regarding the vacancy.
