Next, has announced that it is leaving a Merseyside high street.
The store on Lord Street, in Southport, will close its doors for the final time at 5.30pm on, January 28. The store sells men's, women's and children's clothing across two floors. The news comes despite the retail chain reporting increased sales over the Christmas period.
Next, is the latest retail giant that to leave Lord Street. Debenhams shut the shop just before the coronavirus pandemic struck in 2020 and remains empty.

Located next door to Beales, who shut down in March 2020, after administrators struggled to find a buyer for the famous chain before reopening in 2021. Last year both Waterstones and Wetherspoons announced that they would be leaving the street, with Waterstones moving to a location across from Southport station.
Posters in the Next window invite customers to instead shop at their other location at Central 12 retail park on Derby Road in Southport, saying “we look forward to seeing you in our nearest store”.
