Next Rangers chairman 'leading candidate' revealed as member of House of Lords

Rangers are reportedly closing in on appointing a new chairman with a leading candidate revealed.

The Scottish Sun reports Lord Malcolm Offord is in contention to replace John Bennett in the top role at Ibrox.

Offord, 60, is a member of the House of Lords and has a background in politics and business.

Born in Greenock, the Conservative Party donor has reportedly been targeted for the Rangers chairman position.

And it's claimed Offord has already been involved at Rangers in discussions with possible replacements for James Bisgrove in the chief executive post.

John Gilligan is currently in post as interim chairman after Bennett had to step down over health matters.
