Jurgen Klopp’s future at Liverpool remains secure despite his side's disappointing start to the season.
Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Leeds at Anfield marked Liverpool's fourth Premier League defeat of the season after just 12 games, already doubling their total from 38 fixtures last term. As things stand, it leaves the Reds in ninth place in the standings and 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
There is plenty of debate over what is currently going wrong on Merseyside. Is it a lack of investment in the midfield? Has the side been allowed to grow old? Is it the change in formation and Sadio Mane's exit? There are no shortage of questions in the here and now.
But there are also questions over what comes next. Klopp arrived at Anfield in 2015, and now, seven years later, what is the contingency plan for when he does eventually call time on his tenure.
With all that being said, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest odds for who his eventual replacement could be.
Pep Lijnders - 5/2
Leading the early frontrunners is none other than Klopp’s right-hand man. Ljinders currently works as Liverpool’s assistant coach and is the favourite to succeed his German counterpart at Anfield.
Lijnders has formed an integral part of Liverpool’s success under Klopp over recent years, in which they have won every trophy available to them from the Champions League and the Premier League to the Carabao Cup and Community Shield.
The Dutchman has also previously spent time as assistant manager at Porto between 2006-2014, while his only managerial stint came at Dutch second tier outfit NEC Nijmegen in 2018. However, he lasted just five months after failing to win promotion to the Eredivisie.

Thomas Tuchel - 4/1
Former Chelsea boss Tuchel has been out of a job since being sacked by the Blues in September and has already turned down three Premier League job offers as he bides his time for the perfect role.
The German has experience of managing at the highest level with Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, winning 10 trophies - including the 2020-21 Champions League with the latter.
The 2021 German Football Manager of the Year could well be the ideal candidate. He already has experience of managing in the Premier League, already has experience of replacing Klopp and is seen as one of the world's top tier bosses.
Steven Gerrard - 9/2
Despite recently being sacked as Aston Villa manager following two wins from their first 11 games of the season, club legend Gerrard is still rather high on the list of potential candidates who could take over the reins at Anfield.
After impressing with Rangers between June 2018 to November 2021, in which his side went the whole of the 2020-21 season unbeaten to lift the title, Gerrard failed to live up to his hype at Villa Park with just 13 wins from 40 matches during his 11 month tenure.
Nonetheless, the former Liverpool midfielder has been touted as Klopp’s successor for a number of years now and the latest odds prove that to still be the case. However, very rarely do things go well when a club appoints one of its former players as their new manager.
