Next Level Chef contestant ignores mentor's advice and ends up in cook-off before being sent home

In the pressured and hot Next Level Chef kitchen it can be easy to make mistakes but one chef messed up when she refused to listen to her mentor's advice. The eight-part series is set in a studio with three unique kitchen spaces set across three storeys and almost 50ft high. You can read more about the show here.

In each episode, chefs are assigned to cook in one of three kitchens stacked on top of each other. The top level is equipped with a wide range of modern tools and devices, the middle level is a standard commercial kitchen, and the bottom level contains a limited collection of lower-quality equipment. Contestants will have 30 seconds to choose their ingredients and then battle it out to make the best dish in just 45 minutes or 30 minutes.

Each professional chef on the show, Gordon Ramsay, Paul Ainsworth and Nyesha Arrington, have their own team who they help and guide however Layla in Nyesha's team ignored Nyesha's advice. Tasked with cooking a delicious burger and chips in just 30 minutes, Layla decided she wanted to do her chips her way.

Warning her that she was cutting her potatoes too thinly and the chips could turn into crisps instead, Nyesha advised her to make thicker chips which Layla ignored. After Layla interrupted Nyesha, the mentor coolly replied: "If I may finish my sentence? I love your voice, I celebrate your voice but I'm also here to see you win."

Speaking to the camera Layla said: "Your mentors, they are there to help you but my planning I want to keep authentic to me. I didn't want fluffy potato chips and actually, I want to do it like long thin crisps. Whether it's wrong or right it's MY decision."

Nyesha warned that if Layla ignored her advice she could end up in trouble and ultimately Layla did end up in the cook-off after her burger and chips did not impress. Layla failed to create the best lobster burger in the cook-off and was voted off the show meaning her team will start in the bottom and worst kitchen next week.
