Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has emerged as the heavy favourite to succeed Eoin Morgan as England captain in the white ball format. The current captain is set to announce his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday.
Under Morgan's leadership, England rose to number one in the world rankings in both one-day internationals and T20 formats as well as winning the World Cup in 2019 after a dramatic final at Lord's against New Zealand. It is thought he wanted to stay on and lead England at the T20 World Cup in Australia this year but the 35-year-old has struggled with form and fitness over the last 18 months.
He missed the conclusion of their Netherlands tour with a groin niggle having been dismissed for a duck twice in high-scoring innings, largely thanks to Buttler who is 1/10 with Betway.
