Chelsea have taken another step towards appointing their next permanent manager after holding positive talks with Mauricio Pochettino, football.london understands.
The former Tottenham boss has been linked with vacancy at Stamford Bridge since Graham Potter departed at the start of the month. And after Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the running, the Argentine has now emerged as the frontrunner to take over.
Frank Lampard has filled in on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with the Blues' season having very little left to play for after their Champions League exit in midweek and mammoth task of finishing in the top four.

football.london understands Chelsea and Pochettino have recently held talks which have been seen as positive by both parties. Confirmation of the appointment isn't expected to come any time soon, with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart taking their time through the process.
However, optimism of Pochettino's arrival will continue to build in and out of the club. Reports suggest the reaction within the Chelsea dressing room has been positive, with acknowledgement of his coaching skills, man-management and motivation.
Pochettino is keen to return to the Premier League after managing 293 games for Tottenham between 2014 and 2019. A return to north London has proved more difficult than expected, leaving the door open for Todd Boehly to get his man.
Six months ago, the 51-year-old opened up on his future, possibly hinting at why a move to SW6 is perfect. He said in November 2022: "I miss the Premier League. Why not [return to England]? We are open.
"I love England, I love living in London and Barcelona. And, of course, if that possibility [to return] appears for sure we will consider taking it."
