Middlesbrough and former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has become the bookies’ hot favourite to replace Sean Dyche as Burnley ’s new manager.
SkyBet have Wilder as the 4/5 odds-on favourite to replace Dyche, who the Clarets dismissed on Friday with Burnley in danger of seeing their six-year stay in the top-flight come to an end this season. Wilder’s Boro side currently sit ninth and three points shy of the play-off places in the Championship with just four games to go. However, Boro have played a game fewer than most of the teams also in the mix for a top-six spot.
Second favourite with the bookies is former England manager Sam Allardyce. The 67-year-old has been out of work since departing West Bromwich Albion last year having failed to prevent them from getting relegated.
The Clarets are currently being managed by under-23s coach Mike Jackson, who oversaw Sunday’s 1-1 draw away at West Ham United at the London Stadium.
They currently sit three points shy of safety, with their next game coming on Thursday night at home to Southampton. Meanwhile Everton, currently sat in 17 th , are also in action in midweek, hosting Leicester City on Wednesday night.
Jackson is not currently on SkyBet’s shortlist to replace Dyche, but there are plenty of familiar faces behind Wilder and Allardyce in the bookies’ running.
