After an impressive first season at Old Trafford, the Red Devils struggled under the Dutchman’s guidance from the beginning of the 2023-24 season until the point he was dismissed.
They did however win both the Carabao and FA Cup during his two years with the club.
Many will remember the excellent work he did at Ajax, and he has also previously worked in Germany.
Ten Hag was the coach of Bayern Munich’s B side when Pep Guardiola was in charge of the senior team.
There is plenty of fuel behind the speculation of Ten Hag becoming the next Borussia Dortmund manager. Last week, reports in Germany claimed that the Dutchman had recently been working as a ‘shadow coach’ at the Bundesliga side.
He was also spotted at the Westfalenstadion earlier this month to watch Dortmund’s 3-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Sky Germany report that Ten Hag has a ‘very good’ relationship with Dortmund advisor and former captain Matthias Sammer. This stands Ten Hag in good stead when it comes to the race to become the next manager of the Bundesliga giants.

The SportsCasting traders are making Roger Schmidt and Niko Kovac the second and third favourites respectively to be the next Borussia Dortmund manager to replace Nuri Sahin.
Schmidt has plenty of experience when it comes to managing German football clubs. He previously coached Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
He last managed Benfica who he guided to the Portuguese league title in the 2022-23 season. However, he was sacked after just two years at the club back in August.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed that Schmidt is seen as a ‘dream solution’ by some at Borussia Dortmund. He also claimed that Kovac is another option who has been heavily discussed.
Kovac managed rivals Bayern Munich between July 2018 and November 2019. He won the Bundesliga title in his only full season at the club but was sacked after a 5-1 loss to Wolfsburg.
The Croatian has also been manager of Eintracht Frankfurt – where he won the German Cup in 2018 – and Wolfsburg, who sacked him in March 2024.
Could Dortmund Turn To The Premier League?
A number of Premier League managers are seen as outside shots in the next Borussia Dortmund manager betting odds market.
The best betting sites in the UK have placed Fulham boss Marco Silva as the sixth favourite to take over the Bundesliga club at 12/1 odds.
Fulham have enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League and currently sit inside the top 10 in the standings.
Andoni Iraola at 16/1 odds is another manager who has got a side performing above their normal standards at Bournemouth who are currently just three points outside the top-four.

This is after he took a behind-the-scenes role as Red Bull’s global head of football. This is something which did not sit well with some Dortmund fans.
