Newton Stewart Triathlon Club held their annual Aquathlon at Merrick Leisure Centre, Newton Stewart on Saturday.
With dry and calm weather benefiting competitors and spectators alike, the event attracted 55 competitors aged from six to 73, including a disabled athlete.
The competition required participants to take part in a swim in the pool at the leisure centre, followed by a run on the grassed area outside the centre.
Distances varied according to age group with the youngest, the age eight and under doing a 50m (two length) swim and two lap (600m) run, right up to the adult sprint distance which required a 750m swim and 5k run, which took them out onto the nearby roads.
For the first time this year, the club offered a have a go category, designed to encourage youngsters who are less confident in their swimming abilities to join in the event.
With a one length swim, this non-competitive category was very well received, with all children rising to the occasion in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Their run was three laps of the field, greeted at the finish line with a participation medal and of course some sweets.
The atmosphere throughout the day was of fun and participation, with smiles and laughter being the mainstay of the event. The club would like to thank those who participated for supporting the competition and the Merrick Leisure Centre for so ably hosting it.
