The five-year-old gelding often has the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket as his overall seasonal target, finishing second in that race in 2020. He hasn’t won a race since August 2020 at York, but he has posted some very competitive performances when fresh.
Lucander is expected to improve considerably on his seasonal debut in April when he finished seventh in a nine-runner 1m 1f handicap at Newmarket in April, where he was badly hampered a furlong out.
Over obstacles at Cartmel, CLEAR THE RUNWAY (3.45, nb) has been progressing nicely over fences this year, with three wins out of five starts. The six-year-old was then turned out over hurdles for two starts, winning both, the most recent by 25 lengths at Market Rasen 11 days ago.
