MR TREVOR (6.45, nap) has had three victories on tapeta this season – including twice at Newcastle – and he can add another in the Spreadex Sports Injury Time Loser Insurance Handicap at Gosforth Park this evening.
The four-year-old gelding is in fine form – as is his trainer Ann Duffield, who currently has a 50 per cent strike rate – scoring a course and distance success against 13 rivals by three-quarters of a length 11 days ago.
His main danger will be Vindobala , who also won here three weeks ago over mile with plenty in hand, but a 4lb rise might just swing the contest in Mr Trevor’s favour.
In the opening Huge Daily Boosts Only At BetUK Handicap over a mile and a half, another course specialist, KING OF THE SOUTH (3.42, nb), is aiming for a fifth win at the track in a race he won last year.
Trained by William Knight, the five-year-old ran in some stiffer contests than this last winter, going down by just over a couple of lengths to Fancy Man in the Listed Betway Winter Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield in February.
He should be fit and ready to run a big race off the same mark he won at Southwell in January, after having his first outing for seven months at Kempton 15 days ago when fifth of nine in another Listed event.
