The Miami Dolphins rebounded after a Monday Night Meltdown last week and delivered the New York Jets a 30-0 shutout at Hard Rock Stadium.
The game featured a masterful defensive performance by Bradley Chubb, who was a polarizing player this week based on last Monday night’s mental error against the Tennessee Titans.
The last time that the Dolphins shut out a team was in 2020, and, coincidentally, that was also against the Jets. They’ve now swept the Jets for the 20th time in their all-time series. This is also the eighth occurrence in team history that Miami has swept the Jets and New England Patriots in the same season
The Dolphins are now 10-4 for the first time since 2000, and this is the third time since 2010 they’ve won double-digit games, adding to 2016 and 2020. Miami has won eight consecutive home games against the Jets.
Their 30-point margin of victory against New York on Sunday is the third time this season that Miami has won by at least 30 points. It’s only the second time in franchise history that they’ve posted three 30-plus-point wins in the same season and the first since 1971.
Dolphins dominant defense
- Bradley Chubb leads the NFL in forced fumbles this season with six so far. Three players have five. Several have four.
- Chubb had three sacks against the Jets. The last Dolphin to have three-plus sacks in a game was Jalen Phillips in 2021.
- Christian Wilkins had a half-sack on Sunday. He has 3.5 sacks over his last four games and eight on the season. He has a quarterback hit in 11 of Miami’s 14 games.
- The Dolphins didn’t allow a rushing first down against the Jets on Sunday. That’s the first time that’s happened since 2012, and it’s the ninth time in team history this has occurred.
- Miami’s defense on Sunday against the Jets was epic. It was a shutout while holding them to just 103 total yards, which is the second-fewest in any game in Dolphins history, and the lowest since 1973 (76 yards allowed against the Buffalo Bills).
- The Dolphins recorded six sacks and 12 quarterback hits against the Jets. It’s the third time this season they’ve had at least six sacks in a game and the fourth time they’ve had 10-plus quarterback hits. Miami is the only NFL team with four games of 10+ quarterback hits this year and is one of just two teams, along with the Indianapolis Colts, with three games of six-plus sacks.
- Chubb has a quarterback hit in 12 of the Dolphins’ 14 games this season.
- Zach Sieler and the Dolphins’ defense were one yard shy of tying the team record of a four-game touchdown streak, set back in 2001.
Raheem Mostert is Miami's new single-season touchdown king
- Mostert is now the second oldest player in NFL history, 31, to score 20 touchdowns in a season. John Riggins had 24 in 1983 at the age of 34.
- Mostert has a four-game-rushing touchdown streak, and it’s the longest since Jay Ajayi had that run in 2016.
- Ironically, the last two NFL players to rush for 20 touchdowns in a season were Austin Ekeler and Jonathan Taylor. Ekeler and Taylor have combined for 11 total touchdowns this year.
- 2023 salaries
- Ekeler – $6.3 million
- Taylor – $11.9 million
- Mostert – $2.8 million
Jaylen Waddle breaks through for game of the season
- Waddle’s 142 receiving yards on Sunday was the third-highest total in his Dolphins career.
- He’s totaled at least 50 receiving yards in five straight games. He’s done this in eight of his past nine games. He also has five-plus receptions in eight of his past 10 games and is 36 yards shy of becoming the first player in Dolphins history to record three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons
Tua Tagovailoa playing like an MVP, again
- Miami is now 19-5 all-time in home games started by Tagovailoa, including 15-2 in his past 17 home starts.
- His .792 home winning percentage is the best among any active NFL quarterback with a minimum of 20 starts.
- Including the playoffs, Sunday’s victory against the Jets marks the Dolphins’ 300th all-time home win in franchise history. Per the Dolphins Communications department, they’re 300-166-3 at home in team history.
- Tagovailoa completed 21-of-24 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown, finishing with a 119.4 passer rating in Sunday’s victory.
- He led Miami to 30 points for the eighth time this year and did so despite missing several starters on the offensive line and the NFL’s leader in receiving yards in Tyreek Hill.
