Newry City boss Darren Mullen delighted to add Larne pair to squad during January window

Newry City have announced the loan signings of Larne prospects Matthew Lusty and Dylan Sloan.

The pair have joined the Showgrounds club to the end of the season.

It is Newry's first piece of business in the January window and manager Darren Mullen is delighted to get the talented teens on board.

He told the club's website: “I knew we needed to freshen things up so I’m delighted to get the two lads in so early in the window.

"They are both extremely talented players who have represented Northern Ireland at youth international level and have been regulars in Larne’s senior squad this season.

"From speaking to them both it was clear that they are excited for this challenge and are keen to start contributing on the pitch. Having spoken to their coaches and fellow players both at Larne and Northern Ireland they both have huge potential.

"What they now need is more minutes on the pitch and I’m hopeful we can help them fulfil their potential. I’d like to thank Tiernan and the staff at Larne for helping to facilitate both deals.”

Meanwhile, forward Lusty (19) - who has scored three goals in six appearances for Larne this season - said: “I am really happy to be here and I’m looking forward to getting started. Hopefully we can put together a good run of results between now and the end of the season.”

Midfielder Sloan (18), who has made seven senior appearances for Larne this term, added: “I am really pleased to be at The Showgrounds and am glad that the club were interested in me to come on board.

"I can’t wait to get started and try to make a difference.”
