Newport residents without water after burst pipe closes main road

Residents in Newport have been left without water due to a burst water pipe which has shut a main road in both directions. Residents in postcodes NP19 and NP20 which include parts of St Julian's, Lliswerry, Beechwood and Christchurch are currently without water due to a burst pipe which has forced Welsh Water to temporarily close Chepstow Road both ways from Aberthaw Road to Ringwood Avenue.

Residents first reported trouble with their water supply on Tuesday night and some are completely without water this morning. Welsh Water has confirmed it is dealing with the burst water main and that residents may not have their water fully restored until this afternoon. The Welsh Water website says people in the affected areas might experience low or no supply, and has asked those with water to run their cold tap to clear any discolouration before using their water.

The AA website shows the road is closed in both directions from Aberthaw Road to Ringwood Avenue, but traffic appears to be coping well. A Welsh Water spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with a burst water main in the Chepstow Road area of Newport which is affecting supplies to customers in the area.

"Our team has been working since the early hours on repairing the pipe and anticipate that this should be completed this afternoon. We have also had to temporarily close Chepstow Road so that our team can complete the repair safely. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for bearing with us."
