A care-sector worker from Newport has been hailed a 'Covid Hero' at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Sally-Ann Evans won the accolade at the regional heat of the Great British Care Awards, a national celebration of excellence across the care sector.
And that's not all. Sally-Ann's employer, home-care providers Right at Home Cardiff & Newport, also scooped a Care Team Award and was nominated for four out of the 21 awards.
Sally-Ann was recognised for outstanding service within the community during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis.
The judges looked for examples of a creative, innovative and flexible approach, as well as selflessness, dedication and a commitment to maintaining the safety, physical and emotional wellbeing of service users and staff members.
Dedication and commitment
Right at Home spokesperson Courtney Katramanos said: "Sally-Ann found her passion in care when she joined Right at Home five-and-a-half years ago.
"She is a highly regarded senior caregiver and well known for her dedication and commitment to providing the highest quality of care to the clients.
"Sally-Ann was in total disbelief when she accepted her award because she was up against so many amazing caregivers. She was overjoyed and emotional when her name was called.
"We never had a doubt, though - she is a true hero and a blessing to our company. We could not ask for any better than our very own Sally-Ann!"
Outstanding excellence
The Great British Care Awards pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
There are 21 awards categories available for nomination, which represent all areas of the social care sector - whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care.
The awards celebrate everyone from frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways, such as training and innovation.
Sally-Ann and the care team from Right at Home Cardiff & Newport will now go forward to the national final being held at ICC Birmingham on March 18.
