Primary pupils will have to wait a little longer before moving into a new shared campus in Newmains.
Kids from Newmains and St Brigid’s Primary were due to move into their new campus in January next year.
However, that date has been put back due to a ‘technical issue’ on the site.
Newmains independent councillor Robert John McKendrick revealed all in a letter sent to all four local councillors by North Lanarkshire Council.
The letter states: “A technical issue has arisen at the site which is out with the control of both the contractor and the council.
“This means that the project will now not be handed over at the timescales originally intended in January 2023.
“The root cause of the delay relates to the supply of utilities to the site.
“Construction works are progressing as planned, however the utility delay will now impact on the contractor’s ability to commission the new facility.
We are working hard to resolve the matter and would like to apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
“We will communicate a revised handover date to all stakeholders as soon as we have it.”
As well as the two primary schools, the £20 million site will also include a family learning centre and community facilities.
Children and young people, staff, parents and the local community are playing a significant role in developing the design for the campus.
They have been working with the design team and senior council officers to ensure the design of the campus reflects the educational aspirations of the council, taking into account the requirements of the local community and the natural heritage and architecture of the area.
The amenities will extend to high quality outdoor and indoor sports facilities, extensive landscaped shared playground for both schools and dedicated outside play space for the Family Learning Centre.
