Newly released body cam footage sheds light on the intense confrontation that ended the Bourbon Street terrorist attack, as officers exchanged gunfire with Shamsud-Din Jabbar after he killed 14 people and injured dozens in a New Year's Day rampage.
The New Orleans Police Department made the body camera footage public on Friday, January 10, offering a detailed view of the moments leading to Jabbar's death, according to Fox8 Live.
The footage, recorded by Officer Luis Robles, captures the deadly encounter as Jabbar exchanged gunfire with law enforcement.
In the video, Officer Robles runs toward the open door of a truck after it crashed into a lift vehicle on the 300 block of Bourbon Street. As Robles approaches, a sudden muzzle flash erupts from inside the vehicle's cab, where Jabbar fired a gun from under a deployed airbag. Officers retreat quickly as the shooting continues.
Responding officers returned fire, fatally wounding Jabbar and bringing an end to the attack.
Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that two officers, Joseph Rodrigue and Jacobie Jordan, who were injured during the gunfire exchange, have been discharged from the hospital and are recovering.
The body cam footage also shows three officers surrounding the rented F-150 truck that Jabbar used to plow through crowds of New Year's Day revelers, killing 14 and injuring dozens.
