Newly opened Edinburgh deli devastated after thieves target business

A new Edinburgh deli that had just opened their doors in Corstorphine was broken into by thieves in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Bennitos serves up Mediterranean meats and cheeses, anti pasti, lasagne, meatballs, cakes, Italian Gelato ice cream as well as milkshakes.

Police Scotland say that they were informed of the incident at around 6am on Tuesday May 31.

Officers say that an investigation is underway following the break-in.

The business, which only opened at the end of May last month, took to Facebook to inform customers that they would be closed for the day.

Bennitos was expecting a big weekend at the start of June with the Corstorphine fair, but they say they will update their loyal clientele with when they will reopen.

They said in a statement on Facebook: “Well any publicity is good publicity!?

“Sadly we were broken into last night. Buggers!!

“We will keep you updated as to when we will reopen. All that prep as well.

“Love from the Bennitos’s family and thank you all for your continued support.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “An investigation is under way following a break-in at a premises in St John's Road, Edinburgh. The matter was reported to police around 6am on Tuesday, 31 May, 2022 and enquiries are ongoing.”
