A newly-installed gas meter in Kincaidston has been found to be leaking.
The meter, installed at an address in Thistle Walk, had to be worked on by an engineer after a panicked resident could smell gas coming from their home.
An SGN engineer rushed to the property after the alarm was raised last week.
The gas device had recently been fitted as part of major replacement works still ongoing in the Ayr estate.
SGN has been ripping out the entire network of old iron pipes to replace them with new safer plastic pipes.
The works by the gas distribution firm started last year just weeks after a devastating explosion ripped through four homes in Gorse Park on October 17.
A community campaign called for change in the aftermath of the blast as they asked for new pipes and for meters to be placed outside homes.
SGN say their teams will carry out further safety checks in the area to provide " further reassurance".
A spokesperson for SGN said: “We attended a smell of gas report at a property in the Kincaidston estate, after a customer called the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999.

“Our engineer carried out safety checks and found a minor gas escape which was repaired immediately.
“This was an isolated issue but our project team will carry out further safety checks throughout the estate to provide further reassurance to the local community.
“We’d like to remind everyone that if gas is smelt either indoors or outdoors, you must call 0800 111 999 right away.”
Last month, Ayrshire Live revealed how six months on from the blast in Gorse Park, residents were still searching for answers.
Health & Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors investigating the major incident revealed their final findings would not be published, leaving victims in a freedom of information sweat to get closure.
Ayrshire Live told how SGN had to address fears after more than 30 residents complained their meter had not been removed from their homes during the works.
