ASX-listed goldminer Newcrest says a worker from its contracting partner has died at one of its mines in Canada.
The Procon worker died at the Brucejack mine in British Columbia on Saturday, Newcrest announced on Thursday.
"This is devastating news that no-one ever wants to hear," Newcrest managing director and chief executive Sandeep Biswas said.
"The feeling of profound sadness when a life is lost is never forgotten. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and those close to our colleague during this very difficult and emotional time."
The company on Monday had announced a "critical incident" at the mine. Reaching the incident site was a complex task, Mr Biswas said, with teams working around the clock with authorities to get there.
Mining and processing operations remain suspended at Brucejack for the time being.
