Newcastle will be missing some key players heading into Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal.
Eddie Howe’s side head into the clash at the Emirates Stadium full of confidence, with Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Tottenham extending their winning streak to six games across all competitions.
Finalists in this competition two years ago, Newcastle will no doubt feel confident about meeting an Arsenal team without the likes of Bukayo Saka and perhaps even exciting youngster Ethan Nwaneri.
Still, Newcastle do not exactly have a full compliment themselves.
Both Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar are suspended for the first leg, while all of Nick Pope, Emil Krafth, Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles are injured.
Sven Botman made his long-awaited return from injury against Spurs but came off towards the end of the game due to fatigue.
“We have to speak to the player, the medical team, the experts,” said the Newcastle boss about the Dutch defender.
“They'll give me some of the answers to what we do with him next. But he's a competitor. He is hugely driven for the team and himself. So I've no doubts what he will say but, as I say, we need to speak to other people and make the right decision.”
Anthony Gordon, meanwhile, required treatment on a bloodied nose following a collision with Dejan Kulusevski and eventually came off against Spurs, but could be in line to feature.
“Anthony was in a bit of discomfort with the cut which was a nasty looking one,” added Howe.
“Looking back, I thought it was a clear penalty. He came away from the incident with blood on himself. We dusted him down and I thought he had a really good game.”
