Manchester United return to Premier League action when they play Newcastle at St James’ Park.
United endured a disappointing night in the Europa League against Lyon on Thursday, when a pair of Andre Onana mistakes meant they drew 2-2 draw after a 95th-minute equaliser from Rayan Cherki.
The result did carry positives, though. Leny Yoro scored his first goal in United colours, while Patrick Dorgu and Joshua Zirkzee both produced encouraging performances, as did Alejandro Garnacho and the ever-reliable Bruno Fernandes. But it will take some going to turn over Newcastle, who are in the midst of an historic season.
Newcastle are unbeaten since winning the League Cup in March, the club’s first major trophy for 70 years, and show no signs of slowing as they push for European qualification. Now sitting fifth with a game in hand, a win on Sunday could see them step into fourth, trading places with Chelsea.
But they will be without manager Eddie Howe after he was admitted to hospital.

Newcastle vs Manchester United team news
While Isak is firing, Newcastle will sweat on the fitness of their other talisman, Anthony Gordon, who is yet to appear in team training since suffering a groin injury on international duty and is a doubt for Sunday. Joe Willock will also miss out due to concussion protocols.
Supporters can expect a similar lineup to that which Howe named for the win over Leicester last time out, which was effectively full strength in a cruel show of force against the relegation-doomed Foxes.
United have seen their injury crisis ease somewhat in recent weeks as Kobbie Mainoo has returned from injury, making a brief cameo in the Lyon draw, with Ayden Heaven also approaching a return to training. The newly injured Toby Collyer will likely miss out after picking up a knock.
Matthijs de Ligt and Amad Diallo are both expected to be out for more weeks, with Amorim saying he hopes both will return this season.
Amorim confirmed after the Lyon tie that Onana will remain between the sticks for the trip to Newcastle and the second leg against Lyon despite his repeated errors, with Altay Bayindir waiting in the wings. A start for Zirkzee could also be in line after he replaced Hojlund and scored a late goal in the match.

Newcastle vs Manchester United prediction
Amorim and United seem to be making painstaking progress towards becoming a competitive team, but they are still far from perfect. This was exemplified by their midweek draw, during which a clear line was drawn between the side’s leaders and its strugglers.
Newcastle, in comparison, look to be balanced and efficient, pulling out wins over some of the best teams in the country this season, namely Liverpool in the League Cup final. At home on Sunday, the Magpies should have no issues.
Newcastle to win, 2-1.
