Manchester City and Newcastle shared the points as a sensational and dramatic six-goal thriller in the Premier League ended level at St James’ Park.
Ilkay Gundogan fired the champions ahead after just five minutes and City looked set for a comfortable afternoon when the German midfielder struck from close range.
But Newcastle produced a brilliant response, and deservedly led at half time as Miguel Almiron bundled in an equaliser and Callum Wilson finished off a breakaway.
Erling Haaland hit the post after half-time and moments later Kieran Trippier’s stunning free kick beat Ederson to leave St James’ Park rocking and City in deep trouble.
But Pep Guardiola’s side launched a comeback of their own - as Haaland pulled one back and then Bernardo Silva finished a remarkable Kevin De Bruyne through ball.
In a further twist, Kieran Trippier saw a red card for a high challenge on De Bruyne overturned by VAR, and City could not find a winner.
