Eddie Howe has insisted that departing striker Chris Wood will be replaced. The Newcastle United boss said the “financial” aspect of the sale of Wood was too good to turn down and in his Press conference stated that the £25millon signing from Burnley wanted to leave.
However, he hopes that Wood can benefit himself at Nottingham Forest after landing a bumper contract which at 31 the player wanted to peruse.
Howe said: “I think Chris is having a medical with Nottingham Forest. That’s the situation. Chris has been a huge player for us, I have to say he has been outstanding, in every way.

“When we signed him we were in a very difficult league position. He played a huge part on the pitch and helped transform the team. Then this season he has been excellent on and off the pitch when he’s not played.
“We can’t underestimate the role has played. It was a difficult decision because you have to take into account the player and his wishes. But also I think it’s a very good deal financially for the football club.”
And when asked if the Magpies would be adding more firepower to the ranks, Howe said: “We are hopefully planning to replace him. Certainly from my side there was no thought of letting a player go and not replacing him. That would leave us dangerously short but there’s no guarantees so that’s the position we are in.”
