Newcastle United are awaiting a response from Watford after submitting a new bid for Joao Pedro. Eddie Howe stated this morning that news that a bid had been accepted was not "entirely accurate" and Chronicle Live understands that while Pedro is satisfied with personal terms on offer from United, the overall package still needs to be ironed out.
The add ons that go with Newcastle's initial transfer fee were not deemed suitable by Watford as they included European qualification in future years.
But United are hopeful of getting a deal done on the 20-year-old and feel that the player will bring competition to their frontline. With Callum Wilson suffering a hamstring concern, Howe has had a gentle reminder that he lacks cover in that area with only Chris Wood deemed a recognised striker.
As things stand on the eve of Newcastle's cup trip to Tranmere, club sources are insisting that talks simply remain "ongoing" while the Magpies are also waiting for decisions from Chelsea on which of their fringe players they will loan out. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja are all looking for clubs.
