Newcastle United are looking to clinch their sixth win at St James’ Park in a row as Crystal Palace visit the North East on Wednesday evening. Following a last gasp winner against Leicester City, the Magpies come into this game in good spirits.
On the latest episode of The Everything is Black and White Podcast, host Andrew Musgrove and John Gibson look back on that victory over The Foxes, and ahead to the clash with Palace. The pair, like nearly all Toon fans, were full of praise for Bruno Guimaraes as well as Emil Krafth and Matt Targett.
Guimaraes scored a double against Leicester to move Newcastle closer to securing their Premier League status. A win against Palace would all but secure it.
Speaking about the game against Palace, Gibbo said: “It could quite easily be a draw on the law of averages. Newcastle have won five and keep winning by the narrowest of margins, can they keep doing that?
“But I do think Crystal Palace might be there for the taking after the huge disappointment of the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea. That is very difficult for a manager to shift from a mind - ‘we could have been playing in a cup final and now we’re not,’ so now it might be ‘can I get a cigar out and deck chair out at St James’ Park?’
“So I’m taking Newcastle to get their sixth win. It will be hard-fought and close as that is the ability of this side - they can rise to the occasion but haven’t got enough to cruise it. I’m looking for a very narrow victory yet again.”
