Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Monday, January 24.
NUFC must cough up for Carlos
Newcastle may have to pay up to around £60m to land Diego Carlos from Sevilla.
Both clubs have been locked in talks over a move for the Brazilian as the Magpies look to shore up a leaky backline.
The 28-year-old played 90 minutes in Sevilla’s 2-2 draw with Celta Viga at the weekend but is reportedly keen on a move to the Magpies - who would be willing to treble his wages.
Carlos has evolved into one of La Liga’s top centre-backs following his switch from Ligue 1 outfit`Nantes in 2019.
Lingard on loan?
Newcastle are pushing to sign Man Utd’s Jesse Lingard this week, and have made a fresh bid for the midfielder.
The England international is out of contract at the end of the season and is eyeing a loan move, although the Red Devils prefer a permanent deal.
Toon chiefs remain confident that a deal can be done - with talk of a huge £10million loan fee being mooted.
The report lists Spurs midfielder Dele Alli as a possible backup option if a move for Lingard breaks down.
Idrissa inbound?
The Athletic reports that Newcastle are weighing up a £12million for PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
The Senegalese midfielder is currently at the African Cup of Nations and has just 18 months left on his current deal.
Defensive midfield is a weak link in Eddie Howe’s side, with Isaac Hayden ruled out due to a lengthy knee injury.
At 32-years-old, the former Everton midfielder would be seen as a short-term fix as Newcastle look to add some steel to their engine room.
