Newcastle United transfer rumours as Scamacca looks elsewhere and Jamal Lewis offered lifeline

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Sunday, April 3.

Scamacca reportedly agreed terms with Inter Milan

With the lack of Champions League football or proven capability in the Premier League, Newcastle United are going to struggle to recruit a top-class striker - or two - this summer. And the task may have just got harder.

For a while it has been believed that Newcastle United have an eye on Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca, who plays for Sassuolo. So far this season he's scored 13 goals in 28 appearances for them in Serie A.

As a proven goalscorer he has attracted attention, including from Arsenal. However, according to TeamTalk he has agreed personal terms with Inter Milan.

The report adds however, that although he wants to stay in Italy, Sassuolo are believed to be asking for £34m, a struggle for Inter Milan these days. Which may leave some leverage for Newcastle United.

Middlesbrough may want Jamal Lewis

According to website Football League World, Middlesbrough's Chris Wilder is keen on recruiting Jamal Lewis from Newcastle in the summer. No doubt it is a move many would like to see work out.

Lewis arrived at Newcastle United as a relatively expensive full-back. However, it was at a difficult time to arrive at the club, and Lewis's misfortune culminated in not being named in the current squad.

A move to Middlesbrough would seem preferable to his current situation. Added to that, at the time of writing Middlesbrough are well-placed for the play-offs, which could see him back in the Premier League.

Claim of bid for former Sunderland man

Take this with a pinch of salt, and one could be forgiven that it was published on April 1 for a reason, but a website has claimed that Newcastle put an offer in for Didier Ndong.

The 27-year-old midfielder is contracted to French side Dijon, but was loaned out to Turkish team Yeni Malatyaspor this season. He previously played for Sunderland, but left under a cloud.

Now a report has appeared in his home country of Gabon, translated by Sport Witness, saying that Newcastle have put in an offer. It also said that parties have agreed terms.

Sport Witness wrote: "A ‘reliable source close to Dijon’ informed L’Union the Tyneside club leaders made an offer to buy the former Sunderland man on Monday." The report claims that the fee is €2m. Best read with a pinch of salt.
