Newcastle United transfer rumours as Saint-Maximin backed to leave and Matheus Franca competition

Your Newcastle United transfer rumours for Friday, January 3.

ASM backed to leave

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Allan Saint-Maximin will leave Tyneside this summer. Reports had linked the Frenchman with a move to AC Milan in January.

“I would say I would be surprised if they let him go but there is a reason why they have brought Gordon in though,” he told Football Insider. “They pushed hard and got it through. They wouldn’t have spent all that money on him unless they thought he was going to be a regular in the first team.

“I think Saint-Maximin will be looking elsewhere. It is a shame because when he’s on top of his game, he is amazing. He is a better player than Gordon in my opinion. Gordon has been signed to replace Saint-Maximin. He has not been signed to play alongside him. I think that is a move that we will see happen in the summer.”

Garcia will join Madrid

Rayo Vallecano president Raul Martin Presa has confirmed Fran Garcia will rejoin Real Madrid at the end of the season. Newcastle were linked with the Spaniard before signing West Ham United right-back Harrison Ashby.

A buy-back clause inserted into his contract when he left the Bernabeu in 2021 has been activated, reportedly worth £9million. Presa said: “Fran Garcia will go to Real Madrid at the end of this season. We have reached an agreement.

“For them, it would have been the best thing on a sporting level (to bring Garcia back now). Real Madrid is a club that acts sportingly, and we have to thank them (for letting us keep him for another few months).”

Bayer enter Franca race

Coluna do Fla are reporting that Newcastle face stiff competition from Bayer Leverkusen for Matheus Franca. Brazilian media claimed the Magpies had three bids rejected for the 18-year-old last month.

Flamengo demanded a 50 percent sell-on clause and €5million more than what Toon chiefs offered. But Newcastle are thought to retain an interest in the attacking midfielder.
