Newcastle United transfer rumours as Nottingham Forest make Allan Saint-Maximin 'enquiry'

A round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer news on Wednesday, 25 January.

Nottingham Forest make Allan Saint-Maximin 'Enquiry'

According to The Telegraph, Nottingham Forest have contacted Newcastle United over the availability of Allan Saint-Maximin. The report claims the Premier League new boys have made an ambitious attempt to contact the Magpies, having just sealed the loan signing of Chris Wood.

The New Zealand international is expected to make the move to the City Ground a permanent one, if certain conditions are met during his loan. Saint-Maximin has not started for Newcastle since November, in part due to injuries he's picked up.

The Frenchman has a huge admirer in Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi, who reportedly tracked the player’s progress throughout his time at Watford. Nonetheless, the Magpies are hoping to keep the winger at St. James' Park as they target a place in the top four.

Roma 'reject' Newcastle loan offer for Nicolo Zaniolo

Calciomercato.it claim that Newcastle have had an offer for Nicolo Zaniolo turned down by AS Roma. The report claims the Magpies wanted to pay €5m for a loan move, plus €35m for a buying option.

This option to buy is said to be triggered if Zaniolo plays in 75% of Newcastle's matches between now and the end of the season, but that’s said to be ‘unacceptable’ for Roma, who ‘have said no’ to that.

The Magpies have been warned that they face competition from elsewhere in the Premier League, if they plan to return with another bid.
