A round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer news on Friday, March 4.
Newcastle at the front of the queue to sign £100million Victor Osimhen
Il Mattino and CalcioNapoli claim Newcastle United are at the front of the queue to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker signed for Gli Azzurri for a fee believed to be in the region of €80million from Lille, and the Serie A club are keen on cashing in on the 23-year-old forward.
Osimhen has been repeatedly linked with a move to Tyneside, since the Saudi takeover, but any interest has not been made concrete. Manchester United were also reportedly keen on signing the striker, but were understood to have been put off by his high price tag.
The Naples forward has missed a large chunk of the season with a fractured cheekbone, but has still managed 11 goals and four assists in 22 appearances this season. It's no secret that Newcastle are expected to spend big this summer, if they ensure their Premier League safety this season.
Reports claim Newcastle are at the front of the chasing pack, but Napoli are keen on selling to the highest bidder. The Magpies new found wealth would all but assert themselves as a dominant force.
Newcastle tipped to sign Jesse Lingard in the summer after Amanda Staveley reveal
Former Arsenal striker, Kevin Campbell, believes Newcastle are the favourites to sign Jesse Lingard this summer after Amanda Staveley revealed all in an interview with the Athletic. The Magpies owner claimed the England international was keen on a move to St. James' Park over a month ago, but the Red Devils would not sanction a move.
Lingard now looks set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer in the summer. Contract talks with the 29-year-old have broken down over a lack of promised game time, despite Lingard featuring more lately under Ralph Rangnick.
Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell said: “Look, Man United did not want him to go in January. In the end, they just dug their heels in to make it as difficult as possible. Newcastle are in with a definite shout come the summer because the project is taking shape.
“On a free, Lingard will have his pick of the clubs. He has history at West Ham but it’s exciting times at Newcastle right now. It is going to be very interesting to see where he ends up. There will be a number of tempting offer, yes, I’m sure.”
