Here are your latest Newcastle United transfer rumours for Sunday, January 8.
Kevin Danso and Desire Doue
Newcastle are interested in signing French Ligue 1 pair Desire Doue and Kevin Danso, according to Jeunesfooteux. The Magpies are believed to be weighing up a move for both players whenever the right opportunity presents itself, as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his squad.
RC Lens centre-back Danso struggled to impress during his season-long loan at Southampton in 2019/20. However, the 24-year-old rebuilt his career in the German second-tier with Fortuna Dusseldorf, before joining RC Lens at the start of last season.
He has been a regular fixture at the heart of defence in the French top-flight - amassing 54 appearances across all competitions for his current employers. RC Lens currently trail league leaders Paris Saint-Germain by just four points, and produced a stunning 3-1 victory over the reigning champions on New Year's Day.
Doue has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season at Stade Rennes. The 17-year-old made his senior debut on the opening game of the Ligue 1 season and has scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions this term.
Joao Gomes
Journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Newcastle are interested in a potential move for Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes.
Gomes is contracted at Flamengo until 2027 and has a £54 million release clause. The 21-year-old, who plays as a central defensive midfielder, has already made 119 appearances for his current club across all competitions.
Galetti tweeted: "“Newcastle would like to strengthen – if possible as early as January – the midfield (and the attack as well).
“Among the names followed by Newcastle, there is also Joao Gomes, Flamengo midfielder.”
Gomes has lifted five trophies since breaking into Flamengo's first team in 2021, including two league titles and the Copa Libertadores.
