Here are your Newcastle United transfer rumours and gossip on Monday, April 17.

Newcastle United target responds to Magpies links amid Champions League 'dream'

Newcastle United transfer target Kevin Danso has responded to reports of a move to St. James' Park by simply saying he wants to play Champions League football.

The centre-back has led RC Lens to their current spot of 2nd in Ligue 1, only nine points behind reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

But the 24-year-old seems committed to his position with the French side, highlighting his desire to play on European football's biggest stage after Newcastle's 2-0 loss to Aston Villa over the weekend.

"I have a contract with Lens until 2026, my goal is to play regularly in the Champions League. I keep concentrating only on my performance, So I have – in quotation marks – I’ve arrived in world football."

Newcastle United become frontrunners to land Irish starlet

Newcastle United are reportedly the new frontrunners to land 18-year-old Irish starlet Corey Smith from Dungannon Swifts following his impressive displays this season.

The winger has emerged as a leading prospect this season, having netted his first senior goal for Dungannon in a 1-1 draw against Glenavon earlier this month.

Now, Magpies chief Dan Ashworth has reportedly taken a liking to the star, who was once deemed 'unplayable' by his own manager Dean Shiels.

According to sister title Belfast Live, Newcastle will only face major competition from fellow Premier League side Wolves in their bid to land Smith's talents.
