No Bruno sale
Dan Ashworth has rejected claims that Newcastle would consider selling Bruno Guimaraes. Faint rumours linked Real Madrid with a move for the Brazilian in the summer, who confirmed those conversations after his heroics last weekend.
The 24-year-old has established himself as a firm fans’ favourite since a £35milllion switch from Lyon in January. A brace against Brentford was the latest highlight of an already glowing Toon career.
New sporting director Ashworth has dismissed talk of Guimaraes leaving anytime soon. “Absolutely, I do not want to sell Bruno,” he said. “You have to trade, given Financial Fair Play. “There’ll be times… I can’t lie to you and say we’ll never have to sell a player, that doesn’t happen anywhere.

“Liverpool sold Sadio Mane (this summer). You have to sometimes make a pragmatic decision to go, ‘OK, we’ll do that, because that’s a way of reinvesting’. But, as a rule of thumb, I would like to think we’ll be able to hold onto our top talent to drive our ambitions.”
Santos ‘talks’
Newcastle are ‘in talks’ over a move for Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos, according to 90min. Previous reports have linked the Magpies with a move for the midfielder but speculation is heating up.
Journalist Graeme Bailey suggests discussions are already taking place over a deal to sign the youngster. He wrote: “They’re (Newcastle) in talks with Vasco da Gama over Andrey Santos, who is one of the best young midfielders in Brazil – he has been for a good 18 months now; defensive midfielder.
“They nicknamed him the Brazilian Busquets in Brazil, that’s how good he is. He won’t come cheap, about £20m, but these talks are ongoing and Newcastle are very confident about getting him and he will come in on a work permit.”
Another goalkeeper?
Turkish outlet Sabah claim Newcastle are considering a move for goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. Despite having four first-team shot-stoppers at the club, the Magpies are linked with another.
Cakir has spent his entire career at Trabzonspor, earning 21 caps for Turkey in the process. The report suggests Newcastle scouted him earlier this year before signing Nick Pope and Loris Karius.
Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie are also still on the books while Martin Dubravka, on loan at Manchester United, will return in May. Signing a new goalkeeper is surely way down on the list of Eddie Howe’s priorities.
