Newcastle United transfer rumours amid Serbian defender contact and Tielemans interest ramps up

Here is your round-up of Newcastle United transfer rumours for Monday, February 14.

Newcastle 'had contact' over Serbian defender

According to Italian website Calciomercato, via Sport Witness, Newcastle United have been in touch with Fiorentina about Serbian defender Nikola Milenković.

The 24-year-old centre-back apparently came close to leaving Fiorentina last summer and is now being watched by Serie A clubs and Newcastle, and possibly others.

Sport Witness summarised the Italian report: "In ‘recent days’, La Viola ‘had contact’ with Eddie Howe’s side over the Serbia international’s transfer."

The Italian website Calciomercato, translated by Google, wrote: "Fiorentina had contact with Newcastle, the Viola would be willing to sell him but with a fair offer."

If he does leave his current club, it may be that Fiorentina would prefer to sell to a club abroad rather than Italy, which could give Newcastle some leverage.

Newcastle 'keen' on Leicester City's Tielemans

Newcastle's name has been brought up by a website in relation to Leicester City's stay player Youri Tielemans.

The Belgium international is yet to sign a new deal with Leicester and a number of suitors are lining up to try and lure him away from the mid-table side, with Newcastle United among those mentioned.

Website 90mins reported: "Tielemans is not short of interest, with as many as five Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on his situation. Manchester United are long-term admirers of the Belgian, while Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle are also keen."

The website added that his current deal is due to expire in under 18 months and the club's bosses have started to brace themselves to lose the impressive midfielder.

Bundesliga boss hints at Schlotterbeck opportunity

There has been an ongoing rumour linking Newcastle United with German defender Nico Schlotterbeck, and though it sounds like a tenuous one, there has been an another update.

The 22-year-old, who was recently called up to the national team, plays for Freiburg, whose CEO Jochen Jaier said that although the club would not sell the centre-back last month, he might leave in summer.

HITC wrote: "SC Freiburg CEO Jochen Saier has said star defender and rumoured Newcastle United target Nico Schlotterbeck could leave this summer after interest in the January window."

Apparently the CEO had been speaking to German television when he revealed the possibility, which may have been a good way of increasing the number of bidders and ratcheting up the price.
