Newcastle United transfer rumours: Almiron told how to earn new contract, 'target' asking price

A round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Sunday, 6 November.

Miguel Almiron told how to earn new Magpies' deal

One good month at Newcastle United has not been enough to convince former Hibernian striker Tam McManus of a new deal for Miguel Almiron. The Magpies midfielder has been a standout figure under Eddie Howe this season, with talks of a new contract circulating.

The Toon head coach quashed any talk of a new deal in his recent press conference but has told the Paraguayan to keep enjoying his football.

“He’s had one really, really good month,” McManus told Football Insider. "That doesn’t earn you a new deal. I’m with Eddie Howe on this one. If he carries this on until the end of the season then absolutely.

“What if he goes back to how he was playing last season but now he is on a much bigger pay packet and tied down for longer? Listen, I hope that doesn’t happen. I hope he gets better. But you have to think about the practicality of it.

“You have to earn a deal and Almiron is well on the way to doing that but you can’t just be giving them out based on a good run of form. It would be mad, you would have new contracts every other week.”

Danish club reveal asking price for Gustav Isaksen

Midtjylland CEO Claus Steinlein says his side will be looking to beat the current Superliga record for a transfer fee, if Gustav Isaksen is to leave the club. The current figure stands at €20million, with the young playmaker attracting interest from Newcastle and other Premier League clubs.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Steinlan has addressed Isaksen’s future at the club. “We have made an agreement with Gustav, his family and agent that he will stay until the summer, and then we will sell,” he said.

“However, the offer may become too large, and I fear that it will. I was made aware a week ago that the biggest sale in the history of the Superliga is €20million, and if he has to leave, we have to beat it.

“It is realistic when you look at what has happened in the last week, and you know which clubs are looking at him. It could well be really exciting, and otherwise he will have to stay at FC Midtjylland for half a year more.”
