Newcastle United may soon have another local club to send young prospects to with Hartlepool United keen to strike up a partnership this summer. The League Two side are hopeful of loaning emerging talent from the Magpies, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in their push to escape the fourth tier.
Chronicle Live reported earlier this week that Eddie Howe spoke with representatives from Gateshead FC on Saturday with the view to sending players on loan to the National League side after being impressed by their style of play.
Paul Hartley, the newly-appointed manager at Hartlepool, wants to get among the action himself and admits his club have been in talks with nearby clubs regarding transfer dealings this summer.

“It’s really important,” Hartley explained to The Hartlepool Mail. “We’re in conversations with every single club just now from round and about this area. It’s really important we have a healthy relationship [with them] so we can help them, but they can always help us.
"So that’s something we’re going to build over time, and it was one of the things I thought about when I took the job, to build relationships with the teams around here, the bigger clubs in the Premier League and the Championship. I’ve got enough contacts within the game so we’ll have to use it.”
Dan Ashworth will work with Newcastle loan manager Shola Ameobi and academy boss Steve Harper in the coming weeks to decide the future of some top talents on Tyneside. The sporting director has a track record for ensuring that teenagers get the right loan move away before being tested in the first-team.
Dan Langley left the Magpies earlier this summer to join Gateshead on loan, while Rodrigo Vilca has also been shipped out in recent weeks. More Under-23 prospects are expected to depart before September to ensure their careers don't stagnate in the youth system.
