Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Sunday, June 4.
Double Dutch
Eddie Howe is considering a reunion with former Bournemouth protege Nathan Ake, talkSPORT claims. Pep Guardiola has reportedly told the defender he can leave Manchester City this summer, with Newcastle one of several interested clubs.
Howe signed Ake while in charge of Bournemouth in 2017 and a centre-back is high on the Magpies’ wish list. The Dutchman would be an alternative to compatriot Sven Botman, who is yet to decide on his next destination.
Spurs want ASM
Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Allan Saint-Maximin, football.london reports. Antonio Conte has already bolstered his wide ranks by signing Ivan Rakitic on a free transfer.
Spurs’ managing director Fabio Paratici is an “admirer” of the Frenchman, who is a fans’ favourite at St James’ Park. Saint-Maximin has previously stated his desire is to remain at Newcastle following the ambitious Saudi-backed takeover.
With four years left on his current deal, Toon chiefs are in a strong position should Tottenham come calling.
£60m for Costa
Newcastle must fork out €60million to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, according to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias. Despite Martin Dubravka cementing his status as first-choice goalkeeper since arriving in 2018, United are believed to be in the hunt for a new shot-stopper.
Manchester United backup Dean Henderson’s name has frequently been touted as Howe looks to bolster his goalkeeping ranks. Now, reports on the continent have linked Costa - who has four caps for Portugal - with a Newcastle move.
However, the inflated price tag is due to Porto’s unwillingness to sell their star asset. The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe and has four years left on his contract.
