Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Thursday, January 5.
Thuram ahead of Pulisic
GiveMeSport has claimed Newcastle would rather sign French star Marcus Thuram than Christian Pulisic. The latter was linked with a move to the Magpies last summer.
Eddie Howe was forced to fend off a question regarding Thuram at a press conference last month. Reporter Dean Jones has provided a transfer update on the 25-year-old.

“I would personally say that Marcus Thuram is currently ahead of Pulisic at this moment in time in terms of a priority list,” he said. “That’s partly because he’s actually available and more realistic in financial terms.”
Brazilian wonderkid linked
The Magpies are considering a move for Brazilian prospect Matheus Franca, according to 90min. Green-and-yellow flags have become a common sight at St James’ Park due to Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in recent times.
Signing another Brazilian would ramp up the excitement levels on Tyneside… could we even see a yellow away shirt? Franca is an attacking midfielder, with five caps at under-16 level.
Reporter Graeme Bailey has suggested Newcastle are negotiating with his current club Flamengo. He posted on Twitter: “Newcastle continue talks with Flamengo over Brazilian teenager Matheus Franca.”
Toon tussle with Chelsea
RMC Sport have named Newcastle as the latest club interested in Illan Meslier. The 22-year-old was arguably man of the match during the 0-0 draw at St James’ Park last week.
Interest in a goalkeeper is surprising considering Martin Dubravka’s recall from Manchester United. Eddie Howe already has five first-team goalkeepers to choose from, with Nick Pope his undisputed number one.
The report also lists Chelsea as another Premier League club vying for Meslier’s signature. New Blues chief Todd Boehly is already set to spend £110million on Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez.
